About Us
The Association of Manitoba Daycare Owners, is a not-for-profit coalition of childcare centre owners in Manitoba. Our incorporated association shares common obstacles faced by privatized childcare centres in Manitoba. We aim to provide a forum for our minority classification of childcare centres to discuss the future of childcare in Manitoba. Our board of directors is made up of volunteer centre owners that are united together to advocate for the fair treatment of our families, children, and employees. Our goal is to make change and to push for the equal treatment of our centres. We are hardworking, dedicated, passionate and driven to have a voice, be heard, and make a positive change in private childcare. We are AMDO and WE CAN DO IT! Let’s do this together, let’s do this now!

Would like to thank you for taking the first step to joining our team. As we strive to grow our membership base we want you to know that you count! Your opinions, ideas and knowledge are welcomed and appreciated. We want to get to know our members and work with them to pave the future for private childcare centres in Manitoba. We value each and every member and make a promise to represent our membership base in a professional, respectful but firm way. We do believe in our association and do believe we can make a difference to create a change! We are looking forward to working with you and we are glad you are here!
Our Story
For years private childcare centres in Manitoba have had a negative image. The funding provided to non profit centres is staggering and has been solely beneficial to the non profit centres. Regardless of the fact that our centres are also regulated and licensed to the same standards as funded, we are excluded from any and all funding. We have a strong belief that funding initiatives should be consistent with respect to employees and families not dependent on what type of centre their children are at. As many private childcare owners continue to face these common obstacles, the importance and need to unite has become a necessity.
Thus, AMDO, The Association of Manitoba Daycare Owners was created. A congregation to collaborate and respond to the inequalities that private centres have been facing for years.
We exist to advocate for parental choice, equality treatment of employees, families and fellow operators.
We will grow, become stronger and bring awareness to our situation.
We are AMDO.
Goals & Objectives
At AMDO, our GOALS are threefold. First and foremost, we aim to be a dynamic forum that brings together owners and supporters, fostering a vibrant community that shares insights and experiences. Secondly, we are committed to establishing a robust liaison with ELCC (Early Learning and Child Care) and governmental bodies, working collaboratively to address industry challenges and promote positive change. Lastly, our mission includes creating awareness about critical issues within our sector, ensuring that the broader community is informed and engaged. Together, we aspire to build a network that advocates for excellence and innovation in early childhood care.
AMDO‘s OBJECTIVES are clear and ambitious. Firstly, we are dedicated to expanding our membership base, creating a more diverse and engaged community. Secondly, we strive to cultivate robust support, particularly from the parent community, recognizing their invaluable role in shaping the success of our initiatives. Thirdly, we are committed to enhancing the image of for-profit centres, underscoring their essential contributions to early childhood care. Fourthly, securing funding is pivotal to the realization of our goals, ensuring the sustainability and effectiveness of our endeavors. Finally, we actively lobby for legislative changes, advocating for a shift in terminology to “licensed and regulated centers” in relevant acts, promoting a more inclusive and accurate representation of our sector. Together, these objectives guide our efforts to elevate standards and perceptions within the early childhood care industry.
SOLUTIONS
Government Policy Advocacy: Our first solution involves actively working to change government policy to be more inclusive of for-profit centres. By advocating for fair representation and recognition, we aim to create an environment where all types of childcare centres are acknowledged for their valuable contributions.
Minister’s Table Presence: Securing a seat at the Minister’s Table is our second strategic solution. This involves active participation in key decision-making forums, ensuring that our perspective is not only heard but considered at the highest levels of policy formulation. By being a part of these crucial discussions, we can better represent the interests of our industry and contribute to informed decision-making.
Strategic Presence: Strategic Presence: Our third solution involves working to position ourselves at the forefront of industry conversations, staying well-informed about the latest developments and trends. This strategic presence enables us to contribute effectively to industry discourse and align our efforts with broader sector initiatives.
How does AMDO achieve this?
1. Letters to government officials
To realize our first solution, we will initiate a comprehensive letter-writing campaign directed at government officials. These letters will articulate the importance of inclusive policies for for-profit childcare centres, backed by data, testimonials, and well-researched arguments. By communicating directly with key decision-makers, we aim to raise awareness and influence policy adjustments that recognize the significant role played by for-profit centres in the childcare landscape.
2. Meeting with the Chamber of Commerce
Our approach to securing a seat at the Minister’s Table involves strategic engagement with influential bodies. We plan to organize meetings with the Chamber of Commerce to build collaborative partnerships. This will not only amplify our voice within influential business circles but also facilitate introductions and discussions with key political figures. By aligning our interests with business advocacy groups, we create a united front, enhancing our influence on childcare-related policy discussions.
